I have run my own
successful qualitative research consultancy since 1996 and am a full member
of the Market Research Society. I am a psychology graduate with over 20
years of market and social research experience in the private, public and
voluntary sectors.
I began my career
in the private sector and for ten years worked for market research agencies
and client companies in London, conducting focus groups all over the UK. Here I
learnt my market research skills. Working on the client side I have
commissioned research projects and know that recommendations from research
have to be actionable.
A common theme in
all my work is communication: how organisations communicate their services,
products and activities to their users, customers and personnel; how people
communicate with each other in and outside of their working lives. Being
independent and working closely with ordinary people I often bring a fresh
perspective to organisations who can feel removed from their stakeholders.
I worked as a
relationship counsellor for Relate for four years. I now work for Relate as
a freelance trainer. I run training courses for local public and voluntary
sector workers in counselling skills to improve their listening and
communication skills. Council employees such as head teachers, teaching
assistants, Human Resource personnel and social workers have attended my
courses. I have also run pupils’ workshops in schools about
relationships and communication.
